Here at Scenic Bluffs Dental, Dr. Jay and Dr. Clare are dedicated to helping patients in Prescott, Wisconsin, and the surrounding areas maintain healthy, strong teeth for as long as possible. They offer various restorative dental services, including dental crown service, that’s often used to help restore teeth from damage and decay that can’t be reversed. You can enjoy a healthier, longer-lasting smile by preserving your natural teeth with dental crowns.
A dental crown is a cap that covers the entire outside surface of a tooth. It can be made from metal, porcelain-covered metal, or entirely ceramic. Ceramic crowns are famous because they closely resemble the natural sheen of teeth, creating a discreet restoration.
Dental crowns can be used to treat various problems, including cracked or fragile teeth, teeth with large fillings, and teeth with root canal treatment. They can also replace the entire structure of a missing tooth when combined with dental implants or for cosmetic purposes, such as covering deep staining that cannot be treated with bleaching agents.
At our office, your teeth will be prepared for a dental crown by removing or shaping the outer layer of your tooth and, in some cases, using dental bonding to build up the structure. Impressions of your mouth will be taken and sent to a dental lab, and a temporary crown will be put in place to protect your tooth.
After a couple of weeks, you will return to the office, and we will fit your permanent crown and make any necessary adjustments for comfort. It will then be bonded using dental cement and a special light to set it. With proper care, your crown should last for many years to come.
