We’ll let you in on a little secret to a flawless smile. We’re talking about the kind of smile you see on the cover of a magazine–white, bright, and stunning. The secret is a durable material known as porcelain, and it’s what most of today’s veneers are made of.
We bet you’ve heard of porcelain before, perhaps in reference to pottery or decorative wares. It’s likely that you even own something made of porcelain. It appears in a variety of different items, from plates and tiles, to lab equipment and dental veneers! Although veneers can be made from a resin, porcelain is the preferred material. It is known to be durable, stain-resistant, and natural looking, so it offers a long lasting and realistic upgrade to the smile.
Contrary to common assumptions, porcelain dental veneers are not a tooth replacement option. It’s a cosmetic procedure that serves to enhance the smile. And although veneers can be used as a one-off solution to a broken tooth, veneers are often used to revamp a large portion of, or even the entire smile. When you get veneers, Dr. Jay will remove a thin layer of enamel from the surface of the tooth. Custom veneers will then be made based on the shape of each tooth. The veneers are thin shells of porcelain. When they are ready, they’ll be affixed permanently to the surface of the tooth.
Here at Scenic Bluffs Dental, we have the technology and services needed to give your smile a tremendous boost. A lackluster grin can really take a toll on your self-confidence. Come on in for a consultation and we’ll fix that.
