If you habitually grind your teeth at night, custom-made nightguards from Scenic Bluffs Dental in Prescott, Wisconsin, could be perfect for protecting your smile. Teeth grinding, scientifically called bruxism, can damage your teeth and jaw, resulting in dental damage, TMJ pain, and other unpleasant symptoms. A nightguard protects your smile, eliminating the need for future restorative treatments.
Bruxism usually happens subconsciously, so patients may not even know they have the problem. Whether you are aware of the condition or not, bruxism is an unpleasant condition to have. Diagnosing bruxism can be challenging, but your dentist can help you determine whether you have the condition.
During a dental exam, Dr. Jay Feuillerat or Dr. Samantha Clare may notice signs of dental damage that indicate teeth grinding. Other symptoms we may use to diagnose bruxism include:
The force exerted during teeth grinding puts pressure on your jaw muscles and joints; that’s why you wake up feeling sore. The muscle deterioration in your jaws causes pain in your teeth, head, and neck.
A nightguard is one of the best ways to protect dental health from teeth grinding. We offer custom-made nightguards after taking your bite impressions. Once we have the specifications of your dentition, we create a nightguard that fits comfortably in your mouth.
A nightguard creates a protective barrier between teeth in the upper and lower jaw. As a result, this reduces dental damage and relieves tension on your jaw muscles and joints, eliminating headaches and other pains. A nightguard also helps you sleep better and wake up feeling refreshed.
Tired of waking up with morning headaches? Have you had enough of teeth grinding? Relief is around the corner. Call us at (715) 953-0499 to book an appointment with Dr. Jay or Dr. Clare at Scenic Bluffs Dental for custom-designed nightguards.
